Four hundred years

Giza pyramid complex in Egypt. There are two camel trains in front of them, with people on the camels.
Egypt. Though not what it would have looked like in Moses' time.
13 Then the Lord said to him, “Know for certain that
for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers
in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved

I was re-reading about Abraham recently and it just hit me how long that actually is. We’re talking the equivalent of 1623 here - in the UK that would be Elizabeth I, Walter Raleigh, gunpowder plot, the bubonic plague.

In the US, the Pilgrims would have only just landed in America.

No wonder the Israelites weren't keen on following Moses - even apart from the whole murderer thing, he was telling them to believe in what must have seemed like myths and legends to solve their problems. And that's before he started making demands of Pharaoh.
